The Centaur has been found!

Nine days after setting out on the search for the Centaur on the Seahorse Spirit, the team led by David Mearns, positively identified the 2/3 AHS Centaur hospital ship. After decades of false claims and not knowing where our loved ones lay, the answer came on 20 December 2009.

For the records, the ship lies 27deg16.98’S, 153deg59.22’E, 2059m below, about 30 miles due east of Moreton Islands’ southern tip. This is less than a (nautical) mile from Navigator Rippon’s notes and estimations.

Since then, the team’s remote operated submersible vessel was put into operation to confirm the identity of the ship using high resolution video equipment. Then on 10^th January 2010 incredible video footage and photographs came back and give all a glimpse of what remains and may bring some answers surrounding it’s sinking.
