At-Sea Service Announced
(from Premier Bligh, 13/8/10)
Following
what I am sure you would agree was an historic, deeply moving Service at St John‘s Cathedral on Tuesday 2 March, I would like to invite (families and descendents) to
attend what will I’m sure be an equally historic at-sea Memorial for the AHS Centaur.
Senator the
Honourable John Faulkner, Minister for Defence, has approved the use of the HMAS Kanimbla to conduct the Service
over the site of the AHS Centaur on 24
September. The Service will be a collaborative undertaking between the Queensland Government and the Australian Defence Force.
The at-sea Service is an important milestone in remembering this tragedy and in honouring those 268 men and
women of the AHS Centaur who gave their lives for their country, and the 64 who survived.
I am sure
you understand that, due to the Service being undertaken at sea, and the related safety requirements, there will be a restriction
on the final number of participants who can be accommodated onboard the ship.
Your sincerely
ANNA BLIGH MP
PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND
