Mini-Plaques to be offered around Australia The
Association's committee has approved the forging of 15 mini-replica plaques at value of around $3000. It will be funded
almost entirely from donations. The plaques are a replica of the memorial plaque laid on the deck of the Centaur hospital
ship on 11th January 2010 by David Mearns and his team.
Organisations and individuals who made a significant contribution
to the search and finding of the ship will be offered one, under certain conditions. Other organisations who have kept the
flame alive over the decades will also be offered one to display at their venue. It is to be accompanied by signage which describes its nature and purpose and the wording of which has been agreed
with the Centaur Association (see below). The Association
is to be acknowledged on the signage as the donor.
It is expected that a ceremony to dedicate each plaque and storyboard
will occur and notification of these ceremonies will occur on this website.

Storyboard Proposed
narrative to accompany the mini-plaque:
"This plaque is a replica of the Centaur Plaque which was placed on the deck of the 2/3 Australian
Hospital Ship Centaur on 12 January 2010. It was laid on behalf of families, friends and colleagues of Centaur
personnel.
"The Centaur was torpedoed and sunk by enemy action on 14 May 1943 with the loss of 268 non-combatant
lives. Only 64 survived. It was discovered on 20 December 2009 to be resting 2059 metres below the surface of the ocean at
27° 16.98' S, 153° 59.22' E, some 50km east of Moreton Island.
"The central disk represents the
CD embedded in the Plaque on which are inscribed the names of those on board, their serial number, age, unit, next of kin
and the names of all known living relatives, and personal messages. It does not include rank, Death being the Great
Leveller.
